Masking is an absolute must these days. There was a time I’d have been thrilled to hear those words, only because I would have assumed they meant sheet masking had finally caught on as a must-do activity. But alas here we are in 2020, and in the midst of a new pandemic that phrase has a whole new sad connotation.
As serious as the sentiment is, there’s no need to ditch your personal style when securing your personal safety. I’ve picked my fave stylish face masks to inspire some stylish protection.
Baggu, maker of the cutest damn reusable shoppers ever, has also branched out into the cutest damn masks ever. Bonus: Thanks to the unique straps, these have a killer fit, keeping close to your face and giving you none of that dreaded down the nose slippage you so often see with ill-fitting masks.
They come in a variety of colorways, but I especially love the Mesa set—these happy neutrals are really so “now.”
Good ole’ Gap. No longer the bastion of laid-back cool staples as it was when I was in small town high school, but they do have a very affordable mask that I actually quite like. Like Baggu they have a variety of colors, but I’m into this navy blue focus set that kinda sorta somewhat reminds me of Japanese shibori. What I really like though is that these stylish masks have three layers and come with a filter pocket.
Oak and Fort
Ok, I love Oak and Fort, like, so much. My closet is full of this affordable, minimalist brand so I was very happy they launched masks. They have a few different styles and types to choose from, but I went with these cotton linen masks (and a matching bucket hat from the same brand to complete the look!) for summer, and they were great. Very breathable, especially for my double masking adventures.
Live your best boho life in these cute Anthropologie masks. Not only are the prints just perfect, but I really like that it’s an accordion mask, which I think would work well if you’re double masking. Yes, double masking. I double cleanse and I double mask. I wear a hospital grade mask underneath a slightly snazzier mask, especially when said mask doesn’t give a good seal but I still want to look cute and liven it up with a much more stylish reusable mask.
Finally, the pièce de résistance, this SSENSE mask is everything. Over-the-top, hyper-fashionable, and perfect for standing out in a sea of same. This mask is made from deadstock material and the giant loopy ear bows are just amazing. It’s a pricey $100, but look, you’re no longer spending money on $15 cocktails and expensive nights out, so splurge a little on this unique piece and make a bold statement. One that says “I’m so amazing, I value both my health and your health, and I look damn cute doing it.”
