Our Deep-Dive Review: GlamGlow GravityMud

Our Deep-Dive Review: GlamGlow GravityMud

I’m going to tell you guys a secret: I hate mud masks. And wash-off masks. They’re messy and annoying, and I usually don’t feel like my skin looks that much better after using them.

I do, however, like peeling masks. So, when I realized that the GlamGlow GravityMud was a mud mask that was ALSO a peeling mask, I was pretty excited to try it.

When I realized that I was going to have a shiny silver robot face the whole time I was wearing it, my excitement amped up even more. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a fun mask.

Anyway, let’s talk about whether or not the GlamGlow GravityMud mask is worth the hype.

GlamGlow GravityMud Overview

This is a mud-based peel-off mask that’s supposed to help your skin defy gravity (hence the name). The brand says that you should use it twice a week for firm, toned, bright, and supple skin.

Personally, I don’t really like to use peel-off masks more than once a week, but you do you.

GlamGlow GravityMud is one of the more fun peel-off masks I’ve ever used, and it’s also one of the few that gives me immediately visible results, which is always a big plus!

The Claims

The whole point of this mask is to help your skin feel lifted, tighter, and firmer. According to the brand website, your skin should feel instantly more lifted and resilient as well as tighter and more toned.

In general, you’re also supposed to see softer, smoother, and more radiant skin, too.

Who Can Benefit From This Mask

The brand touts this as “the ultimate pre-makeup prep,” so if you’re heading into a big event or a night out, this would be a great addition to your routine.

Overall, if you just want a fun mask that helps your skin feel smoother and more toned, this would also be a good product to add to your rotation.

Who Should Skip This Mask

If you’re sensitive to any of the ingredients listed below, definitely skip this.

Anyone who uses heavy actives, prescription topicals, or professional peeling treatments should be extremely cautious about using any kind of peel-off mask! Be sure to ask your derm if you’re unsure. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your face!

Where to Add This Mask into Your Routine

If you’re planning a big day out, I’d put this in the post-cleanse, pre-skin care slot of your morning routine.

If you’re just using the mask for fun and general skin maintenance, I’d recommend using it after cleansing and actives but before the rest of your skin care.

Star Ingredients

 – Licorice: Licorice is an amazing anti-inflammatory ingredient that helps your skin look calmer and clearer. It also helps your skin feel firmer!

– Marshmallow: Marshmallow root is also anti-inflammatory, and it’s great for soothing and hydrating skin.

– Colloidal platinum: Colloidal platinum is supposed to act as an antioxidant. It also amps up the fun factor of the mask!

– Soy isoflavones: These guys can help to make your skin look calmer, brighter and smoother. They also provide skin conditioning and softening effects.

Potential Red Flags

 – Alcohol denat.: More commonly called denatured alcohol, this is the kind of drying alcohol that very dry or sensitive skin types should be wary of! There’s always quite a lot of alcohol in these types of peel-off masks (they wouldn’t work well otherwise), so keep that in mind when you’re deciding whether or not to throw this in your cart.

– Fragrance: Though it’s pretty low on the ingredients list, the fragrance of this mask is noticeable, so be cautious if you’re sensitive to smells.

– Chondrus crispus: This is usually called red algae. CosDNA has it flagged as a potential irritant, so I’m including it here!

How the GlamGlow GravityMud Mask Performs

This mask is definitely maximum fun. It goes on white and turns chrome as it dries, so you basically can’t put it on without taking a selfie. At least, I can’t.

Some peel-off masks dry quickly, but this one doesn’t. Be prepared to wait about 30 minutes for it to totally dry! Once it’s fully dry, it’s pretty easy to peel off in one shot, which I appreciate. I hate when I have to pick tiny pieces of dried-up mask off of my face.

As far as visible results go, my face always does feel softer and more toned post-peel! I’ve also noticed that my perpetually red nose is usually less red, and my pores are considerably less prominent (thank goodness).

So, overall, this mask does exactly what it claims to do for me! I don’t think that it could replace any of my other skin care steps, but it’s a fun and beneficial treat for my skin!

Also, I have a few tips to make the experience a little better for you.

1. Use a mask brush. Seriously, any silicone mask pack brush will do. It’s a huge pain to try to wash these kinds of masks off your fingers, and it’s also hard to get an even application without a brush.

2. Don’t be stingy! Peel-off masks are basically impossible to actually peel off if you put too thin of a layer on. You need a thick, even layer across your whole face for this to work properly.

3. Stay FAR away from your hair and eyes. As in, avoid your whole eye socket area. No undereyes. Steer clear of the brows. Give your hairline plenty of space. You do NOT want to accidentally yank out hairs or pull your delicate undereye skin, trust me. I’ve done it, and it sucks.

Final Thoughts

Is the GlamGlow GravityMud mask worth the hype? I think so! It does what it says it will do, and it adds considerable fun to your routine. While it might not be in everyone’s budget, I do think it’s worth the splurge!
