I’m all about working smarter, not harder. Whether it’s apps, gadgets, or life hacks, I’m always ready to try something new if it promises to make my day a little better or easier.
I believe that everyone needs a “rainy day treat yo’self” wish list, so I’ve rounded up five of my favorite “make life easier” gadgets for the next time you need a little bit of retail therapy.
If you look up TENS units, they definitely look like something out of a sci-fi thriller or medical drama. But I promise you really do need this gadget (and they’re SO much easier to use than you might think).
TENS stands for “transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator,” which makes it sound like it actually DOES belong in a sci-fi universe. In plain English, all it does is use small electrical pulses to kickstart your body’s natural painkillers (like endorphins), which makes it perfect for cramps, headaches, or that nerve you tweaked in your back for no apparent reason last Thursday (or maybe that’s just me?).
You can find dozens of affordable and highly rated options on Amazon! Trust me when I say this tech gadget will definitely make your life better.
Amazon Fire Stick
This is one of those things that I didn’t know I needed until I had it. Pre-Fire Stick, I would just connect my laptop to my TV and watch whatever I was planning to watch. You know, like an ignorant peasant.
My fiancé bought us a Fire Stick a few months ago, and I seriously don’t know how I lived so long without one. I can aggregate all of my streaming subs PLUS access YouTube and tons of other apps and channels all at once. That doesn’t sound like much, I know, but once you have every bit of media in your life easily available on a big screen, you’ll wonder how you ever watched anything in the Before Times.
Motion Sensor Sticky Lights
Do you guys remember those tap lights that used to show up on infomercials all the time? As a kid, I thought the concept of a light you could stick anywhere and just push to turn on was the coolest thing ever. (I still like them now, if we’re being honest.)
My least favorite thing to do is turn on bright lights when I get up to pee in the middle of the night or when I can’t see into the deep, dark corners of my pantry because I’m short and have T-rex arms. Enter these cool sticky lights.
They look like tap lights, but they’re smart, so you don’t even have to tap! You just stick them where you need them (drawers, closets, bathrooms, whatever), and they automatically turn on when it’s dark and they sense motion.
Can you guys tell I’m a sucker for smart home gadgets? If it were up to me, I would totally live in a robot house that helps me do everything. Yes, I know that’s the premise of many horror movies and books, but I can’t help myself.
Some smart plugs will help you monitor your energy usage, but that’s not what I’m talking about! I like the smart plugs that let you control things in your house that would normally require more effort. Did you forget to turn the lamp off before you got into bed? Smart plug. Worried you left your curling iron on when you left the house? Smart plug! Wish you didn’t have to get out of bed to start the coffee maker? Smart. Plug.
For most of these plugs, you can download a smartphone app to manage them. The app allows you to set timers, schedule tasks (like turning lights on or off at a certain time), and turn the plug on or off with a single tap. I love it.
Razor Extension Handle
So, this one isn’t technically tech, but it’s too fun not to share. Plus, it could actually be useful! I’ve had this Giraffe razor handle extension saved in my Amazon wish list for awhile so that I don’t forget that it exists, but I haven’t bought one yet. (If there was ever a time for it though, pandemic life would be it.)
This gadget is exactly what it sounds like. It’s basically like a selfie stick for your razor. You pop your razor handle into the rubberized top, and the handle telescopes out up to 20 inches so that you don’t have to bend while shaving your legs. The head of the handle is also adjustable, so you can rotate it to a comfortable angle while you shave.
Honestly, the more I talk about it, the more I want to pull the trigger and buy it for myself right now.
I could add a dozen more things to this list, so maybe I’ll do a part two for you guys in the future. For now, tell me about other cool gadgets that make your life easier!
