How to Keep It Cute Even While Wearing a Mask

Whether you like it or not, wearing masks is here to stay. For how long? Who knows, but what we do know is that wearing a mask helps stop the spread of COVID-19. It’s a simple thing that we can all do to help our fellow Americans.

But masks aren’t really the most fashionable or cutest things to wear, right? And trust me, I know that looking cute is probably the last thing on people’s minds, but I think we can all agree that dressing up and getting our faces snatched is a great form of self-care. I know we aren’t going anywhere, but even when I’m picking up my curbside order from Target, I like to get a little festive. It’s truly the little things that are keeping me sane, okay! Here are my favorite tips for keeping it cute while wearing a mask.

Add Accessories

Lipstick and lip gloss used to be my go-tos to create a statement-making look, but since wearing lipstick and a mask is not the smartest idea, I’ve resorted to accessories to give my outfits a little pep in their step. My ears aren’t pierced, but I like to wear huge clip-on hoops now (something I’ve never done before!) to add a little razzle dazzle to my outfits.

Try a New Hairstyle

Now that I have more than enough time on my hands, I’ve been experimenting with a ton of different hairstyles. I love a good space bun look, and I’ve also been wearing my hair half-up, half-down a lot too. And even on the days when I’m rocking a messy bun, I like to spruce it up by adding fun scrunchies (yes, the ’90s are here again and I am loving it) or a cute barrette clip or bobby pins with fun embellishments. We’re all sheltering-in-place anyway, it’s the time to step up our game and try new things!

Rock Some Sunnies

If there is one surefire way to take an outfit from blah to yessss queen, it’s a pair of sunglasses. Give me a pair of black oversized shades, and I truly feel like I can take on the world.

And yes, I hear you from over here: “But Sheryll! Wearing sunglasses is so uncomfortable. They are always fogging up!” Well, in true Sagittarius form, I have searched the internet far and wide to come up with a solution. First, make sure your mask fits tightly around your nose. This is one of the many reasons why I only choose masks that have a nose bridge adjustor. Second, you’ll want to wash your glasses with soap and water and let dry. Why? The soap acts as a protective shield—kind of like a barrier between lenses and the fog.

Find a Cute Mask

And of course, I couldn’t forget to share my favorite masks with you all! I recently ordered a gorgeous silk kimono robe from Kim + Ono and fell in love with this VIVIANCHAN floral black and lace mask.

The washable (and very affordable) cloth masks from Old Navy are a great choice for coordinating with all of your outfits. You can get a pack of 10 for only $25 bucks, and they come in all sorts of cool designs and colors. I especially love pairing the animal print ones with oversized sunnies and a black maxi dress.

And if you’re looking for masks with a bit of fun embellishment, you can pre-order designs from accessory designer Lele Sadoughi. Some even have matching headbands! Adorable.
