In the days before my mom gave me an air fryer, I would have confidently said that I would “probably use it some, but it’s not a necessity.” Now that I have an air fryer, it’s my kitchen appliance ride-or-die. We do everything together, and I couldn’t be happier.
I’m pretty willing to try putting pretty much anything in my air fryer just to see what happens, so one of the few TikTok trends that I’m really into is watching what other people do with their air fryers. I’ve learned some fun (and funny) things about what you should and shouldn’t put into the air fryer, so let me share my favorites with you.
1. A Whole Package of Cookie Dough
Do you need an air fryer to bake a whole package of cookie dough into a single, perfect, enormous cookie? Of course not. But trust me when I tell you that it’s way more fun if you do.

Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper, and put the dough in as thick of a layer as you want. You can bake the dough for about five to six minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (longer if you do a really thick layer), and the result will be the best cookie cake of your life.
Alternatively, you can make a shareable s’mores dip that uses the cookie dough hack plus some chocolate and marshmallows. I haven’t done this yet, but the second I saw it on TikTok, I knew I had to try it.
2. Pop-Tarts and Nutrigrain Bars
I’m always on Team Toasty Pop-Tarts, so naturally, when I saw a TikTok user stick one in the air fryer, I had to try it. Later that night, someone shared another video of a woman putting a Nutrigrain bar in her air fryer, and my mind was blown. For some reason, it had never occurred to me to try toasting a Nutrigrain bar. Spoiler alert: It is delicious.

I use a low temperature (about 200 degrees Fahrenheit) and check them every one to two minutes because it doesn’t take long to go from perfectly toasty to a singed mess, but the results are amazing.
3. Ice Cream?!
Yes, guys and girls, you can apparently air fry ice cream. I watched this TikTok video, and I was immediately intrigued. I’ve never seen fried ice cream quite like this before, but it looks super delicious and really easy!

I ended up reading more detailed recipes about making air-fried ice cream, and I figured out that the most important step to the process is keeping the ice cream as completely frozen as possible (makes sense, right?). Just one minute in the air fryer is usually enough to fry the dough on the outside without turning the frozen ball of ice cream in the center into liquid.
Serve it with powdered sugar, chocolate sauce, fruit, or sprinkles, and it’s a seriously cute treat.
4. Pretty Much Every Veggie in Existence
I will freely admit that I am a little bit picky about my veggie consumption. I need them to be well-seasoned, and I need them to not be mushy. Because of this, adding an air fryer to my life has upped my vegetable consumption considerably.
I’ve watched people put carrots, Brussel sprouts, broccoli, peppers, asparagus, beets, and just about every other veggie you can think of into the air fryer. Not all of the experiments turn out well (lettuce isn’t quite made to be air fried), but I’ve gotten ideas for making so many new veggies that I previously didn’t think I liked!

One of my favorite veggie air frying videos involves slathering a whole ear of corn with butter and popping it into the fryer basket. (I said it was my favorite, not that it was healthy!) It turned into popcorn-on-the-cob, and I love the idea. I also learned that the air fryer is perfect for drying out black beans to make burger patties. Thanks, TikTok!
5. Homemade Bread
Making bread at home has always seemed intimidating to me. I didn’t jump on the sourdough-baking trend that happened in the earliest quarantine days because I always thought that you needed tons of time and special tools to make good bread.

Turns out, I just need some patience and an air fryer! I’ve watched several TikTok videos of people making all kinds of breads and rolls in their air fryers, and now I’m making a list of all of the breads I want to try baking!
