5 Fall Eyeshadow Palettes That Make Makeup Fun Again (Even With a Mask)

5 Fall Eyeshadow Palettes That Make Makeup Fun Again (Even With a Mask)

Two of my favorite things are fall and eyeshadow, so naturally, I’m all about some gorgeous autumn colors.

The absolute second that I feel the barest hint of fall weather, you better believe I’m dusting off my blanket scarves, whipping out my boots, and arranging my pumpkin decorations on literally every empty surface of my house. To say that I’ve been patiently waiting for my favorite time of year would be an understatement, and also kind of a lie. I have not been patient, and I have definitely been guilty of wearing my fall eyeshadow looks in the middle of summer. Sorry not sorry.

Since we’re all wearing masks that cover most of our faces, I thought now would be the best time to talk you guys into splurging on a new fall eyeshadow palette! I’ve curated a list of five of my favorites, and they all have rich, beautiful shades that make my little pumpkin spice heart happy.

1. Urban Decay Naked Cherry

I am a sucker for all of the most recent Urban Decay eyeshadow launches. You’d think by now that the Naked line would be totally played out, yet somehow it still isn’t.

The Naked Cherry palette is such a perfect complement to any fall wardrobe that features purple, burgundy, mauve, or dusty pink (aka at least half of my outfits). There’s a perfect range of light, medium, and dark tones in here, and you basically can’t go wrong no matter which ones you choose to throw together. The payoff is great, and as long as I prime my lids beforehand, the colors stay true for hours!

2. Clinique All About Shadow Quad

I promise not every palette I talk about will be purple! However, I’d be remiss if I didn’t include this cute Clinique quad in my roundup. If you prefer warm tones (like I do), then Pink Chocolate is gonna be your jam. For my cool-toned guys and girls, I think Going Steady would be a good pick too.

I love how foolproof these quads are. Whether you’re intimidated by big palettes, or you’re just a low-maintenance “quick swipes of makeup” type of person, these adorable quad compacts are great for low-fuss eye makeup that looks like you spent a ton of time blending and layering.

Just do me a favor and use a real eyeshadow brush please. Those sponge tip applicators are so 1998.

3. Tom Ford Eye Quad

Listen, I know that Tom Ford is not in everyone’s budget, but if you can splurge, you 100% should.

You know how we all have that one shade of nail polish or lipstick that we’re just drawn to? The one that we accidentally end up buying in a dozen finishes from a dozen brands because it’s “totally different” from the other “totally different” ones we’ve bought over the years?

Well, that’s how I am about the shimmery copper and champagne shades in the Tom Ford Golden Mink quad. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve bought these same four shades and been like “No, I definitely need this one because it’s very different from the other three that are open on my vanity right now.”

That being said, the color depth and buttery dreaminess of these shadows legitimately IS different from all of the other (totally similar) shadows that I have. So, even though it looks deceptively small and simple, it’s absolutely worth adding to your lineup. You’ll be reaching for it a lot, I promise.

4. Urban Decay Naked Heat

Ha! Did you think we were going to get through this roundup with only ONE Urban Decay palette? Not a chance.

Naked Heat is actually a little bit of a departure from what I normally go for, believe it or not. The shade range is not adventurous for me (you can pry those warm browns and golds from my cold, dead hands), but the number of matte versus shimmers is a big deal for me. I usually prefer all glitter, all the time. I snub my nose at palettes with more than a couple of matte shades because I know I won’t use them. Not so with Naked Heat!

While I still usually top the mattes with a pat of shimmer (I can’t help myself), this is one of the only palettes that has matte shades that I want to use. They’re rich, pigmented, and satiny, so I don’t feel like I have chalky, flat colors caked up on my lids. Plus, just look at that absolutely beautiful line of warm autumn colors. I can already taste my next pumpkin spice latte.

5. Morphe 35F Fall Into Frost Artistry Palette

The Morphe 35F has been my go-to palette for a while because it has such a perfect mix of glittery purples, browns, champagnes, and burgundies. I’ve even been known to use the matte shades on occasion!

One interesting thing about these shadows is that they’re completely different when you apply them wet versus dry, which makes them even more versatile.

When you buff them on dry, they’re shimmery, moderately pigmented and easy to blend together. If you wet your brush though, you get mega metallic color payoff that turns up the drama really fast. They’re slightly trickier to blend when wet, but the colors are so flattering and perfect for fall that I think it’s worth it!

Bonus: Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Shadow

These obviously don’t come in palette form, but I couldn’t talk about my favorite fall eyeshadows without mentioning these.

They’re smooth. They’re sparkly. They’re creamy, pigmented, and stunning. They’re also super easy to swipe on, and you don’t have to worry at all about chunky glitter fallout because they stay put. Basically, they’re everything you could ask for in an individual shadow.

In a plot twist that literally everyone who has read this far was expecting, my favorite shades are Kitten Karma (a champagne sparkle) and Rose Gold Retro (a coppery rose gold sparkle).

Emphasize Your Eyes

I know a lot of us are disappointed by the fact that we can’t show off our fall lippie collections this year thanks to masking and social distancing. But! The silver lining is that this is a perfect opportunity to treat yourself to some new eyeshadow and play up your eyes instead!

What are your go-to fall eyeshadows? Let me know in the comments!
