10 Black Makeup Artists and Influencers You Need to Follow on Instagram

Even though I’m not wearing makeup nearly as much as I did in the Before Times, I still like to keep up with the makeup and beauty trends from my favorite Instagram makeup gurus. It’s kind of a comfort thing at this point—something about seeing my faves still have the energy to do a full beat face on a random Tuesday gives me a full boost of happiness.

If you’re looking for some fresh, new faces to follow, allow me to introduce you to 10 of my favorite Black makeup artists and gurus on Instagram.

The Influencers

Dee Eloi @Glamazon2026

Dee is the QUEEN of a colorful yet approachable colorful eye. I can’t do a halo eye or a cut crease to save my life, but Dee makes it look so easy that I think I’ll pick up my brushes to try again.

Iris Beilin @irisbeilin

I am such a big fan of Iris’s short and sweet Instagram makeup tutorials and her natural, everyday looks. She’s also on YouTube and is absolutely hilarious if you’re looking for a dose of laughs with your makeup.

Shayla @makeupshayla

I’ve been following Shayla for so long it feels like we are besties at this point. And I don’t even want to tell you how many of her posts I’ve screenshot to recreate. Also, if you want some amazing makeup for darker skin, check out her collab with Colourpop. I’ve literally bought everything she’s put out with them, and it’s all been fantastic.

The Makeup Artists

Danessa Myricks @danessa_myricks

Danessa Myricks started her career as a self-taught makeup artist who had a penchant for using makeup products in not-so-conventional ways. Fast forward to the present, and she has now worked with a huge number of celebrities and superstars and has expanded into her own makeup brand. Expect dreamy, editorial-style makeup looks. Pro tip: Try to catch her on Instagram Live for incredible makeup tutorials and demos.

Pat McGrath @patmcgrathreal

Would this list even be considered valid if I didn’t include Mother Pat McGrath? She’s easily the most iconic makeup artist of all time and has been called the most influential makeup artist of all time by Vogue. Her foundation, concealer, eyeshadows, and lipsticks are easily some of my favorite formulations ever.

Everything you need to know about Sir John can be summed up in one sentence: He’s Beyoncé’s makeup artist. It truly does not get more iconic than that.

Mali Magic @kingmalimagic

Mali’s makeup work is so pretty, it stops me in my tracks whenever I see a photo come up on my feed. I’ve personally dubbed her the queen of “skin”—IMO, there’s no one who can do a natural, skin-like finish like her.
